Starting My Own Company

The idea of starting my own company has never crossed my mind. Based on the VC Cliche of the Week, I will do a self diagnosis to decipher whether or not I'd make a good entrepeneur. The first quality is that an entrepeneur is usually the brightest person in the room. Although I have always kept my grades high and have had motivation to do well in school, I have never felt like the smartest person in the classroom environment. There is always that one person who seems to know everything about everything. Secondly, the entrepeneur is compelling, engaging, and has a social personality. I feel that I can fall into this category. I love to meet people and offer my opinions, while at the same time hearing the ideas of others. Next, a hunger for the payday. I feel that money is the ultimate motivator when it comes to the workplace. Without a salary or wage, I would have neither enthusiasm nor motivation to do the best job possible. I will combine four more topics into the next category: an insatiable passion for creating things, an expertise in the product, ability to mediate between the product and the development team, and a flair for marketing. In all fairness, I feel that these topics push me away from becoming an entrepeneur. I have never had a knack for making things. I have always been more of a mathematical minded person. Overall, I do not feel that I would make the best entrepeneur. I would rather work under someone and gain an expertise in a profession and slowly build my way up on the company.

The Digital Music World

This blog is in response to Robert Nyman's blog concerning digital music found at: http://www.robertnyman.com/2007/03/27/people-will-always-download-movies-and-music-heres-how-to-address-it/

It is plain and simple; we live in a generation fueled by the Internet. The music industry still follows its traditional ways and has fallen back since the Internet has emerged as one the most popular, if not THE most popular, ways to connect to others. It is not surprising that the music industry is resentful at the fact that it has become easy to illegally download music because that means that they are losing money. However, when put into perspective, most of the music downloaded are individual hits. This does not mean that the user who downloaded these songs would go to the store and buy an entire cd for one song. In reality, users may recommend certain songs or artists to friends after illegally downloading them, and the friend, in turn, may go out and purchase the cd.

I find it almost impossible to hunt down every user who illegally downloads music from the Internet. Rather than trying to punish those who are guilty of this act, the music industry should try to find an alternative to this problem by making music more accessible and less expensive. Microsoft has created a stepping stone with iTunes, and the market is still open to many new ideas. The music industry should take advantage and try to revolutionize the way that people obtain their music.

My Personal Experience with Digital Music

Digital music has become a dominant force in the music industry and is predicted to do nothing, but expand in the future. Personally, I disagree with how the music industry has evolved where it has become easily accessible to download free music from the Internet. However, Microsoft's approach helps to solve the problem of illegal downloads. ITunes is a program that allows users to pay for individual songs. Then the songs are included in a library on the user's computer and are available for iPod use. Although many believe iTunes to be flawless, I have found some faults in the program. Every song in the system is uniformly priced even though some songs are downloaded more often than others. Microsoft has the ability to gain profit by fluctuating the prices of different songs based on popularity. In addition, songs illegally downloaded from the Internet can also be included in the iTunes library. I feel that this is a problem because it connects iTunes to illegal downloads from the Internet. Microsoft should separate itself and only make songs downloaded from iTunes available on the program.

A League Cup To Remember

English rivals, Chelsea and Arsenal, battled for the Carling Cup final this past Sunday. Three players were sent off as Chelsea came from behind to win 2-1 and lift the Carling Cup for the second time in three years. However, Chelsea captain, John Terry, was not around to lift the trophy after being taken to the hospital following a sickening kick to the head. He was knocked out cold as Abou Diaby kicked him in the face as the two players challenged for a ball in the Arsenal box. Terry swallowed his tongue during the incident and had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher with an oxygen mask to help him breath. The injury overshadowed an amazing game as Didier Drogba netted two goals for Chelsea to gain the victory.

Blogging

Before taking Management for the MySpace Generation, a course offered at Fordham University, I was not conscious of the advantages of blogging. It allows a student, such as myself, to reach out to the public via internet to share ideas. We have been shown several instances in which students, reseachers, and ordinary working class people have started blogs and have been recognized by top level professionals. To some, blogging may be a hobby, but to others it has become an easy, enjoyable way to become reknowned. In addition, blogs are easy to create, easy to maintain, and are search-engine friendly. Finally and most imporantly, the majority of blogging websites are free.

I am currently a freshman at Fordham University. I am majoring in finance and minoring in mathematics. Over the next 5-10 years, I plan on entering Wall Street in the investment finance field. Unlike many others, I want to find a stable company and remain there for my entire career.
